Frederick P. Schutz
Serving in the public, government and private tax sectors since 1983, Fred’s partnerships have included national and regional CPA firms, the Internal Revenue Service (as a revenue agent and appeals officer) and a private international insurance company. Since joining Haefele Flanagan in 1999, he has worked with clients on tax returns, tax research, tax planning and federal, state and local government inquires and tax audits.
Fred’s expertise includes multi-state sales tax, international tax, mergers and acquisitions, and state and local tax controversies. He works with individuals as well as a several industries including wholesale distribution, manufacturing, contracting, leasing, real estate, retail and various service industries. In addition to serving as director of Haefele Flanagan’s Tax Department, he is the technical tax return reviewer for the firm’s tax return engagements.
Fred enjoys golfing, wine making, growing vegetables, and spending time with his three children.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
Helping clients answer their tax questions. Minimizing client tax liability when the client is audited or receives a notice from the IRS, state or their local taxing jurisdiction. Performing research for clients that result in better alternatives for the tax consequences of a transaction. There is a variety of work and every day is different.
